[ultra_dropcaps style=”ultra-square”]T[/ultra_dropcaps]he Michigan Department of Transportation is taking technological steps toward insuring that their bridges are properly inspected.
With the help of a remote a controlled boat, USV EMILY, MDOT is changing the way bridge inspections are done. Swift moving current is often a hinderance for humans to actually get into the water to accurately inspect any erosions or cracks that may cause issues down the road.
The 360 camera attached to the boat, allowing visual of the entire area being inspected, even getting them into places they have never been able to go before.
Crucial information collected can find issues that needs attention and determine if bridges needs to close.
There are currently USV units in testing to help with the over 400 bridges and roadways under MDOT management.
